BLT runs a free English school for around 150 children and adults from surrounding villages.
The school can accomodate up to 3/4 volunteers in love-in comfort including 3 meals per day and wifi.
Volunteers are expected to prepare and deliver 20 hours of lessons each week and are encouraged to undertake practical maintenance as required. Fresh ideas/input is always welcome.
The Bukit Lawang Trust is a charitable Trust that works in communities that have been affected by natural disaster. The Trust was established in response to a flood that hit the village of Bukit Lawang in November 2003, wiping out the whole of the village and killing over 300 people.
Initially, the Trust provided immediate and set up a health clinic. Over time, the need for the clinic declined and the buliding has been redesigned to function as an education center and now offers free Kindergarden and English lessons to over 150 children and also offers English lessons to adults twice a week.
Ideally we would like to give placements to native English speakers who hold tefl certification or who have previous professional teaching expereince. However, non-native speakers who are fluent in English will be considered. Teachers are expected to be responsible individuals who enjoy a challenge and can use their initiative whilst being creative.
The school is situated within walking distance from the tourist center of Bukit Lawang from where you can hire a guide to trek in the Jungle to see Orangutan and other forest animals.
The local people are very friendly and all teachers at the school are highly respected and regarded by the local community.
A donation towards accomodation and food will be required, please enquire for further information.
Interested teachers should email firstname.lastname@example.org for an application form and more information.
