Additional Info:This is a great opportunity to work with and support local people in and around the beautiful city of Kandy, Sri Lanka. This project has been running since 1972 by the Kandy City Mission. Previously they have carried out a lot of community work and provided many services and jobs for local people. They are in need of some new energy and ideas. There are many facilities which have become run-down and unused due to lack of funding and support but there is so much space and potential to get things going again (we need you). This is a mission project, but all are welcome.

The head office is in Kandy town and the 2nd office is in Augustsawatta village just outside Kandy near the stunning peradeniya botanical gardens. Volunteer work can be carried out in either or both areas. There are two Montessori nursaries which have classes running every morning, a homeopathy clinic running one day a week, and on Saturdays a local couple provide English and sport class for local children. In Augustawatta village there is a huge unused hall, computer room, outdoor space and facilities for handicraft classes/workshops.

You can use the space as you wish for the benefit of the local people and children. Volunteers can help in the Montessori class or do after school support classes for local children. Art, Music, Drama and Sports activities would be enjoyed by local children, and English classes would be especially welcome. You may wish to share skills or organise some community events to bring people together. Any ideas?

There are few resources available here at the moment so please feel free to bring teaching aids/materials to help with classes and brighten up the place. We hope to open a small library, so any books, especially English would be welcome.

It is recommended for volunteers to stay at least 1 month. There are many beautiful places to travel in Sri Lanka and people are very welcoming and friendly. Kandy is centrally located and is a good base for seeing the rest of Sri Lanka. If you come here you are sure to have an unforgettable experience.

Please get in touch if you are interested or would like some more information.
